Keep sufficient time to
organize the following
Visas & Permits
All foreign tourists other than Nepal & Bhutan nationals
require a passport with an Indian visa prior to arrival.
Visitors require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Sikkim.
An ILP is valid for 15 days & can be extended by the State
government twice for 30 days of 15 days each. ILPs are
available at all Indian missions, Sikkim Tourism offices at
New Delhi, Kolkata, Siliguri & Rangpo Tourist Lodge on the
basis of an Indian visa.
Trekking Permits are required. Trekking is only allowed in
groups (minimum two persons) and must be arranged through a
Sikkimese travel agent. Check with your reliable local tour
operator and the Indian Embassy for the most efficient
method of obtaining these permits.

Health
Consult your doctor or local health department for
requirements and recommendation concerning travel in India.
Allow plenty of time before travel.
Currency
The currency is the Indian
rupee. Some banks in Gangtok exchange cash or travelers
chouse. Master card Visa card widely accepted. Multiple ATM
outlets in Gangtok.

Carry?
In Sikkim the climate and weather conditions can vary
extensively. Your local tour operator will provide you with
a packing list. Bring any food item which will help you up
steep slopes and portable water treatments if you choose.
Avoid skimpy clothes.
Connectivity
Nearest Railheads - Siliguri (114 Km) & New Jalpaiguri
Station (125 Km) connecting to major cities in India. Road -
Gangtok connected by an all weather road to Siliguri,
Darjeeling, Kalimpong & other places in the state. Nearest
airports at Bagdogra (124 Km) & Bhadrapur in Nepal. Regular
5-seater helicopter service between Bagdogra & Gangtok.
